Amalya Mihnea earned a PhD in Computer Science and a PhD in Mathematics from Florida Atlantic University. She has developed new computational methods and algorithms for solving problems in combinatorics, image/video processing, and wireless networks. She has received travel grants from IEEE, SIAM, MAA, AWM, and other organizations to attend conferences and present her research. She has written more than 15 refereed papers, including a book chapter, and she won a teaching award at Florida Atlantic University in 2010.
She has mentored tens of students in research projects related to computer science, cybersecurity, and combinatorics, some of which were part of their senior or capstone project. She has also engaged students in her research that was published or presented at conferences. She has developed new courses and hands-on curricular materials in computer science, cybersecurity, mathematics, and data science.
Amalya Mihnea was one of about 30 participants selected through a highly competitive process to participate in the 2020 NCES Data Institute: Using Federal Datasets to Support Research on Postsecondary Education, NCES & AIR, which involved interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork. She has been actively engaged in the community by participating in technology-related events.
